I started Bloggertutor in 2020 with a cheap shared host, a free theme and no idea what a focus keyword was. The first version of this guide was written in that same year, and reading it again in 2026 was humbling: it told you to install AMP, buy hosting for 99 cents and chase a nine thousand word word count. None of that is good advice any more.
So I have rewritten it from scratch for 2027. It covers everything a beginner needs, in the order you will need it, with the prices checked against each vendor’s own page in September 2026 and every statistic linked to where it came from. It also covers the part most blogging guides skip: Google’s AI answers now take a real share of the clicks, and a new blog has to be built for that.
The short answer
To start a blog in 2027, pick a topic you know from real experience, register a domain, put WordPress on inexpensive hosting, publish 15 to 20 genuinely useful posts around two or three connected subjects, connect Google Search Console, then add affiliate links and ads once people arrive. Budget about a year before the blog earns anything meaningful.
16 designed, printable pages with real Hostinger screenshots and a clickable chapter bar: the niche test, the Hostinger setup, the five plugins, the free topic research funnel, the on page SEO table, the monetisation ladder and the 12 month plan. No email required.
If you only want the fast version, my practical guide to starting a blog gets you from zero to a live site in an afternoon. This page is the long one: why each step matters, what I would do differently, and how the money side works.
The whole guide in 11 steps
The eleven steps to start a blog in 2027 and grow it to its first income, from choosing a niche to monetising.
Choose a niche you can write about from experience
Pick a subject you have first hand knowledge of, check people search for it, and make sure there is something to sell or recommend in it.
Pick a blogging platform
Self hosted WordPress for most people. Blogger or Substack only if you never want to deal with hosting.
Buy a domain and hosting
A .com or .in domain and entry level shared hosting are enough for the first year. Always read the renewal price.
Install WordPress and change six settings
Title and tagline, permalinks, search engine visibility, timezone, discussion and your author profile.
Add a fast theme and a small plugin stack
One lightweight theme and four or five plugins: SEO, backups, spam protection and caching.
Connect Google Search Console and Bing Webmaster Tools
Verify the site, submit the sitemap and learn the Performance report.
Research topics the free way
Use Google autocomplete, People Also Ask, Reddit threads and later your own Search Console queries.
